Carrot seeds. Carrots, kale, beets etc need a two year cycle to produce seeds. For carrots I leave two or three in the ground over winter. The next year they put out long stalks that have flowers on them. They germinate themselves so you don't have to worry about attracting pollinators. One carrot will give you hundreds of seeds. I dry them out on the stem in my basement then take what seeds I need off the stalk to plant directly in the ground. I tried taking them off the stalk and removing the burrs but it is to much work. Kale is easy to get the seeds because they come out in pods. Beets aren't that difficult either, they just grow on the sides of the stalks.

NPK are the three macronutrients in most fertalizers. Nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Required in different amounts for different plants and at different times. But honestly to keep it simple, most animal manure has sufficient of these three to grow most anything. And the plant will uptake what it needs, when it needs it. There is also the entire aspect of life that makes soil much more than just dirt. The bacterial process that lives and happens in the ground is what makes NPK useful to plants is at least as important to sustainable fertility as just nutrients. Under the topic of hydroponics, there are some sustainable options for soil less growing that dont require a heavy reliance on chemical fertalizers. Composting is also a very important part of a sustainable system. It also helps to quickly deal with manure and such materials that maybe arnt garden ready. More to that topic than I can type here. I'm a firm believer that the most rebellious thing someone can do is plant a garden, because it is a major piece of being independant from the system that most people depend heavily on, and helps to build the idea of self reliance in all areas.
